We are looking for an experienced Functional Analyst to join the IT Development team working on the implementation and continuous evolution of a Trade Capture System within a large commodity trading company.
The Functional Analyst will be translating complex business requirements and trading processes into clear functional specifications for the development team. The role will be involved throughout the delivery lifecycle, from requirements analysis and solution design through development, testing, implementation, and post-production support.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of commodity trading processes, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with both business stakeholders and technical teams.

Responsibilities

Translate business requirements into clear and actionable functional specifications for IT development teams.

Analyze existing processes and systems, identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation.

Define business rules, workflows, data requirements, validations, and exception-handling scenarios.

bullet icon

Support the definition and prioritization of the product backlog in collaboration with Product Owners and business stakeholders.

bullet icon

Develop a detailed understanding of the end-to-end trade lifecycle, from trade execution and capture through confirmation, amendments, settlement, and downstream processing.

Analyze requirements for different commodity products, potentially including power, gas, oil, metals, etc.

bullet icon

Understand physical and financial trading concepts and their representation within trading systems.

bullet icon

Understand interfaces between the Trade Capture System and downstream/upstream systems such as ETRM/CTRM platforms, risk systems, market data, scheduling, settlement, accounting, and data platforms.

Collaborate with Solution Architects, Developers, QA Engineers, and other IT specialists to design appropriate system solutions.

Break complex requirements into user stories, functional specifications, acceptance criteria, and development tasks.

Participate in solution design reviews and assess the impact of proposed changes on existing functionality and integrations.

Identify dependencies, risks, and potential impacts across systems and business processes.

Support SIT, UAT, regression testing, and end-to-end testing.

bullet icon

Investigate and analyze defects, distinguish between functional and technical issues, and work with developers to resolve them.

Support business users during UAT and implementation activities.

bullet icon

Support production issues and participate in root-cause analysis where required.

Communicate complex functional and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Maintain functional specifications, process documentation, data mappings, user stories, and other relevant documentation.

Skills

Must have

bullet icon

5+ years of experience in a Functional Analyst, Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or similar role within financial markets, commodity trading, energy trading, or another complex trading environment.

Experience working with commodity trading, ETRM/CTRM, trading, risk, or deal management systems.

Experience translating business requirements into functional specifications and development-ready user stories.

Experience working in an Agile/Scrum or similar software development environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

bullet icon

Experience with system integrations, data flows, APIs, and/or message-based interfaces.

Experience designing and executing functional and integration test scenarios.

bullet icon

Ability to analyze complex business processes and translate them into practical system solutions.

Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Nice to have

Experience in a large commodity trading organization or major energy/commodities company.

Experience with physical commodity trading and associated logistics/scheduling processes.

Understanding of derivatives and financial trading instruments.
