Oct 2, 2024

Earlier this year, we sat down with our colleagues for some candid conversations in our fireside chat, where they shared personal anecdotes, career milestones, and what makes DXC Luxoft Singapore special. Read on to discover insights and connect with our talented community.

Share with us how long you have been with DXC Luxoft and what are your role and key responsibilities.

Raghav: My journey with DXC Luxoft began in November 2021, and it has been close to 2.5 years. I am a solution architect responsible for working closely with CTOs to design programs and systems that meet the needs of an organization and integrate with its current IT environment.

Kenny: I have been with DXC Luxoft since January 2023. I serve as a delivery manager, overseeing client accounts within the banking sector, specifically focusing on wealth management. My primary responsibilities include cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders and overseeing the professional development of team members to ensure their effectiveness in their respective roles.

Grace: I have been with DXC Luxoft for 3 years. As a talent acquisition specialist at DXC Luxoft in Singapore, I'm responsible for finding and hiring the best people for our team. This includes searching for candidates through different methods, interviewing them, and working closely with hiring managers and directors to ensure we find the right fit. I also help support hiring efforts in other Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, India, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia and the Middle East. My goal is to build strong talent networks and promote our company as a great place to work across these regions.

What initially attracted you to pursue a career in the tech industry, and how did you land in your current role?

Raghav: During my school days, computers were quite a "wow" thing and not within the reach of most people. In my town, aside from my school, our house was the only one with a computer. So, whenever anyone visited, they were amazed and asked many questions about it. My parents would have me explain it to them, which led me to learn more about it and demonstrate it. I am an analytical, detail-oriented person who loves solving math problems, which naturally inclined me towards computer programming. In a typical IT company, you start as a software engineer according to the standard corporate hierarchy. When I became a technology lead, I had to decide whether to go into project management or stay connected to the ever-changing technology. I chose the path of a solution architect, which aligns more with my interests.

Kenny: During my secondary school years, I developed a keen interest in gaming, which naturally drew me towards pursuing a diploma in game development. As I pursued a degree in information engineering, I found myself exposed to a broader spectrum of opportunities within software development. This exposure ultimately influenced my career choice in tech. I began my career as a software engineer, and over time, I progressed into the role of a delivery manager. It was in 2023 that I came across an opportunity for this position. Intrigued by its job scope, I felt that it would significantly contribute to my professional development.

How has DXC Luxoft supported you in optimizing your remote work experience?

Raghav: The best perk of working in tech is the flexibility to work remotely. My line manager has always supported me on a case-by-case basis, providing the necessary accessories or approvals that have enabled me to deliver the same quality of work from home. One such instance was arranging an ergonomic chair for me, knowing that I was suffering from spondylitis.

Kenny: DXC Luxoft, as a globally distributed company, has ingrained remote communication deeply within its corporate culture. With team members spanning various regions worldwide, there is already a high level of responsiveness combined with overlapping working hours. This ensures effective communication and coordination despite working remotely, ensuring communications and task execution are not impacted.

What is your favorite aspect of being part of the DXC Luxoft team?

Raghav: There are other interesting activities like the Buddy Program, conducting interviews, becoming a mentor, etc., which provide a great chance to expand your network and offer monetary benefits. These are some of my favorite aspects of DXC Luxoft.

Kenny: The open mindset of its people, which allows for discussion and transparent communication between and within teams.

Our goal is to make the process clear and efficient while finding the best candidates to join our team.

What are the dos and don’ts a job seeker should be mindful of when submitting their CV?

Grace: these tips will help you present yourself better to recruiters in the tech industry.

How can job seekers develop qualities like adaptability or resilience to better navigate the ever-changing landscape of the tech industry?

Grace: To better navigate the ever-changing landscape of the tech industry, job seekers should focus on developing key qualities like adaptability and resilience. Building a strong network is crucial for gaining support and advice from others. It's also important to hone problem-solving skills, finding creative solutions to challenges that arise. Prioritizing well-being is essential for maintaining resilience, while effective collaboration and teamwork can lead to greater success. Finally, maintaining a positive, can-do attitude helps job seekers adapt to changes more effectively. By embracing these strategies, job seekers can enhance their adaptability and resilience in the tech industry.

Balancing work and personal life are crucial. How do you maintain a work-life balance in the fast-paced tech industry?

Raghav: I am a person who doesn't like to leave things until the last minute. Every day, I reserve 10 minutes before I close my day to plan my next day and re-evaluate the risks and priorities at work. I also set personal deadlines to finish tasks and promptly highlight risks to senior management so that appropriate actions can be taken in time.

Kenny: Prioritizing tasks clearly and effectively is key. Effective time management and open communication with colleagues also ensure productivity at work, allowing more time for family and personal interests.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in tech, especially those just starting out?

Raghav: Along with tech, you should spend equal time learning the domain knowledge where you are implementing the tech solution (e.g., banking, insurance, maritime, aeronautics, etc.). Don’t restrict your communication only to your team; also communicate with people you encounter daily in the office and try to understand their scope of work.

Make your existence and presence felt in the office. Always be nice and helpful to people who approach you for help, even if you are heavily occupied, and never hesitate to offer voluntary help to your team. It will leave a great professional impression and reflect well on your character.

Kenny: Before diving into a job, take a moment to consider if the career path aligns with your long-term goals and if you can envision yourself continuing down this path in the years to come. It's important not to rush into decisions and to carefully assess whether the job is a good fit for your future progression.

Grace: For those considering a career in tech, especially if you're just starting out, it's important to explore your interests and find what excites you in the field. Continuously learning and improving your skills will keep you competitive, so make it a priority to grasp the fundamental tech skills that form the foundation of your career. Gaining hands-on experience through internships or projects is invaluable for building practical knowledge. And finally, stay persistent and don't be discouraged by challenges — success in tech often comes to those who are determined and resilient.
