This time we would like to invite you to join a presentation: Sanctions Screening

Sometimes, in response to the ‘unacceptable’ behavior of a country or a group of people, the governments of some countries impose sanctions on other countries or people. Quite often, it includes restricting access to the financial sector for those blacklisted entities. Such lists are well-known, the general rule is simple: do not process transactions on behalf of, or for the targets of the sanctions. Due to the large variety of languages, alphabets and also poor risk management, it leads to legal and financial jeopardy for financial institutions.
This, however, is:

  • unbelievable, due to sophisticated fuzzy-matching issues
  • serious, due to fuzzy-matching issues
  • severe, due to the omission of the name of a sanctions target for payment messages
  • extreme, due to the use of less transparent messages
  • fatal, due to no-screening

Our speaker will present the simplest Anti-Money Laundering obligation to fulfill, and the greatest failure so far. Our speaker will touch upon the obvious and the deadly serious breaches of laws and international standards related to currency trading and international settlements that catch financial institutions who criminally conduct business.
