ABOUT THE CONVERSATION

GeoHash – Indexing our space

GeoHash is an algorithm that turns geographical coordinates (latitude and longitude) into hashes (characters chains) of length/precision variable. It helps primarily to simplify the proximity searches and the indexed space, but it can also be used for searching locations, defy regions and create searches by region or by prefix without an impact into the database or a lot of data processing. Is an elegant algorithm, simple and, above all, flexible. Many implementations and variables are use in the industry today. It has the advantage of be adaptable and modify to the need of whoever, as it is of public domain.
