Gokulanath, Senior Manager at Luxoft Singapore

1. What’s a typical day like in your current role with Luxoft?

My day starts with a leadership meeting to update my colleagues on the status of on-going delivery, covering new initiatives to improve the business or client projects. I then create collaterals or solutions by collaborating with SME(s) or respective stake holders. Following that, I mentor senior or junior Luxofters and ensure they’re progressing as per their aspirations.

2. What do you do in your free time?

I spend my time with family and do various activities like shopping, watching movies, and trying different foods. Most importantly, I love to cook whenever I get the opportunity.

3. What knowledge or skills are trending in the tech space? (e.g., communications skills or any other tech applications/tools)

Industries are heavily focusing on AI, blockchain, and quantum computing to solve real-time problems or identify opportunities to improve their business, so it is always good for techies to acquire knowledge in those areas to succeed in their career. Of course, soft skills also play a major role in allowing us to convey our ideas.

4. What is the most important skill for techies in 2023?

Based on my experience, one should acquire the following knowledge to succeed in their tech career.

  • SQL
  • Any language (Java/Python/.Net)
  • Cloud platform
  • Blockchain
  • Bigdata
  • AI/ML

5. What advice would you give to your younger self?

Learn new things and find ways to implement them in the real world. Always challenge yourself to find a better approach when solving problems.

6. Where do you get your best ideas/inspiration?

I read many articles and watch many videos about new technologies and how they can solve problems. Another way to learn new things is to have an open discussion with multiple people.

7. What’s your productivity hack?

I always maintain a list of what I should do in the next 3 months and when they should be done. Today, industries expect us to work dynamically, which means we should be ready to adapt to changes. Hence, I always change my priorities based on the demands.

4. What is the most important skill for techies in 2023?

Tech is constantly evolving at a fast pace, hence the ability to learn quickly is key. Holding a junior role currently, I find it essential to learn and apply different technologies fast, as different clients will have different technology requirements.

Keep learning, the things you learnt might not be useful in the moment, but they will be in the future.
