The QA Lead is responsible for driving quality governance, test strategy and delivery assurance across large scale digital banking programs, including mobile banking, payments, onboarding and mortgage lending workflows. This role ensures secure, stable and compliant releases across customer facing channels and core banking systems, with a strong focus on risk, regulatory alignment and APRA ready documentation. Experience working with major Australian banks including Westpac‑style delivery models, governance frameworks and release processes is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Lead end‑to‑end test strategy, planning, estimation and QA governance for digital banking and mortgage‑lending initiatives.

Oversee test execution across mobile apps, web platforms, payments systems, mortgage origination workflows and customer‑onboarding journeys.

Conduct risk‑based testing, impact analysis and mitigation planning aligned to APRA CPS 230, CPS 234 and internal bank standards.

Partner with business, engineering, architecture and product teams to ensure compliant, high‑quality releases across critical banking journeys.

Facilitate defect triage, drive resolution of high‑severity issues and provide go/no‑go recommendations.

Translate business requirements into test scenarios, traceability matrices and audit‑ready documentation.

Lead automation uplift across UI, API and end‑to‑end flows to improve release velocity and reduce manual regression effort.

Provide clear QA status reporting, risk visibility and stakeholder communication across delivery streams.

Mentor QA engineers, uplift capability and embed best practices across squads.

Ensure QA artefacts (DSRs, TCRs, traceability) meet compliance, audit and regulatory expectations.

Skills

Must have

Proven experience as a QA Lead or Test Manager in major banks or regulated financial institutions.

bullet icon

Strong understanding of digital banking journeys, payments flows, KYC, onboarding and mortgage‑lending processes (document assessment, credit decisioning, workflow orchestration).

Hands‑on experience with mobile and web application testing across complex, multi‑system environments.

Experience working within Westpac‑style governance, risk reporting, release management and delivery frameworks.

Expertise in risk‑based testing, defect management and release governance.

Experience leading automation using modern frameworks (e.g., Playwright, API automation).

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across business and technology.
