A Test Automation Capability Lead is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive test automation strategy. This includes identifying and implementing the best tools and technologies, developing and maintaining test automation frameworks, and leading a team of automation testers.
The role is typically very hands-on and requires a deep understanding of both testing and automation principles. The Test Automation Capability Lead, although based in a central team, must be able to work closely with developers, platform and product managers, and other stakeholders to understand the requirements and help develop test plans that effectively cover all aspects of the system under test, working with the automation testers across various ARTs and Programmes in the bank.

This role is a critically important one for the organisation in building the necessary Test Automation Capabilities within the delivery teams. By developing and executing a sound test automation strategy, the Test Automation Capability Lead can help to improve the quality of software, reduce the cost of testing, and accelerate the release of new products and features.

Responsibilities

(1) Develop and implement a test automation strategy:

The Test Automation Capability Lead must develop a test automation strategy that aligns with the organization's overall testing objectives. This strategy should identify the types of tests to be automated, the tools and frameworks to be used, and the resources required.

(2) Identify and prioritize automation opportunities:

The Test Automation Capability Lead must identify and prioritize automation opportunities based on risk, cost, and business value. This involves working with stakeholders to understand their needs and to identify the areas where automation can provide the greatest benefit.

(3) Select and implement appropriate automation frameworks and tools:

The Test Automation Capability Lead must select and implement automation frameworks and tools that are appropriate for the organization's needs. This involves considering factors such as the types of tests to be automated, the skillset of the team, and the budget.

(4) Lead a team of automation testers:

The Test Automation Capability Lead will directly or indirectly lead a team of automation testers in the development, execution, and maintenance of automated tests. This involves providing mentorship and coaching, setting goals and expectations, and monitoring and reporting on progress.

(5) Work with stakeholders:

The Test Automation Capability Lead must work with stakeholders to ensure that automated tests meet their needs and expectations. This involves communicating regularly with stakeholders, gathering feedback, and adjusting as needed.
