Project description

We are seeking a Staff Engineer (in Master Data Management & Data Architecture) to join our Client's IT system house and European data center. Based in Düsseldorf, it supports the retail by providing IT services and developing IT solutions on an international level for the Client in Europe.
The goal of the project is to establish master data governance and integrate master data management tools.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and architecture direction for the enterprise MDM hub, ensuring robust integration with other platforms and downstream systems.

Design and optimize scalable data models, canonical structures, business rules, and data quality frameworks, in collaboration with data governance, stewardship, and architecture teams.

Serve as a hands-on expert with MDM platforms (e.g., Stibo STEP, Informatica) and integration tools, guiding teams through implementation and troubleshooting complex challenges.

Champion engineering excellence by influencing coding standards, testing practices, observability, documentation, and system reliability across MDM initiatives.

bullet icon

Collaborate with Product Managers, Data Architects, and business stakeholders to translate business goals into sound technical solutions and long-term architectural roadmaps.

Act as a subject matter expert and mentor, supporting engineers in problem-solving, reviewing designs, and fostering technical growth.

Define and advocate for platform-wide KPIs (e.g., data quality, latency, availability), ensuring continuous improvement in system performance and resilience.

Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies in MDM, integration, and cloud ecosystems, assessing their relevance and applicability.

Partner with leadership to represent technical strategy, risks, and progress to executive stakeholders.

Skills

Must have

Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical/business field, or equivalent experience.

bullet icon

8+ years of experience in data or software engineering roles, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade MDM or Data Platform solutions.

Experience in distributed data architectures, microservices, and canonical modeling.

bullet icon

Demonstrated ability to influence engineering practices at scale, drive consensus, and elevate technical standards across teams.

bullet icon

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Passion for continuous learning, experimentation, and technical excellence

bullet icon

Experience in retail or grocery industries with large-scale MDM implementations.

Familiarity with customer-centric data strategies and domain-driven design.

Experience with capacity planning, performance optimization, and large-scale data integration.
