The project is in Asset based Lending for an Australian Bank, which is supported by the IT team. The platform operates 24/7, supporting teams in Sydney. The platform undergoes constant change as it provides services to a number of business stakeholders.

Our team is composed of engineers and technology leaders, who bring in the right mix of skills to enable this transformation. We also work very closely with our business and operations colleagues to support these services, which are critical to the Australian and Global economy.

Responsibilities

Role Overview

We are looking for a highly capable Senior Software Engineer to design, build and operate scalable, resilient and secure technology solutions supporting Asset Based Lending, Supply Chain Finance and Structured Trade Finance products.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with strong Python development, software engineering and system design capabilities, combined with experience delivering modern cloud-native and distributed solutions.

You will take ownership across the full software development lifecycle, from solution design and development through automated testing, CI/CD, cloud deployment, observability and production support. You will work collaboratively with engineers, architects, product teams and business stakeholders to solve complex technology and business problems while maintaining strong security, risk, control and data-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop and maintain scalable, resilient and secure applications using Python.

Translate business requirements into pragmatic technical designs and high-quality software solutions.

Design and develop cloud-native, distributed and event-driven systems, applying appropriate architecture and software design patterns.

Build and integrate APIs, data pipelines, workflow automation and data-intensive applications.

Apply strong software engineering practices covering clean code, design patterns, automated testing, code quality and maintainability.

Own solutions across the complete SDLC, including design, development, testing, deployment, production support and continuous improvement.

Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines and engineering automation using GitHub Actions or equivalent tools.

Develop and operate solutions within AWS, applying appropriate cloud architecture, resilience and security principles.

Embed security into the engineering lifecycle through secure coding and DevSecOps practices.

Implement effective observability using appropriate monitoring, logging and alerting practices.

Investigate production incidents, troubleshoot complex technical problems and contribute to root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.

Participate in technical design discussions, peer reviews and code reviews, contributing to overall technical direction.

Mentor engineers and promote high engineering standards, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Leverage automation and AI-assisted development appropriately to improve engineering productivity and software quality.

Skills

Must have

Python Developers with 5-8 years of experience are required.

You will demonstrate:

Strong hands-on software engineering experience with excellent knowledge of system design, design patterns, clean code and automated testing.

Proven commercial development experience with Python, building scalable, maintainable and production-grade applications.

Experience designing and developing cloud-native, distributed and/or event-driven systems.

Strong experience building and integrating APIs and enterprise applications.

Experience with data pipelines, workflow automation and data-intensive applications.

Practical experience working with AWS and an understanding of cloud-native architectural principles.

Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD, with experience using GitHub Actions or similar technologies.

Experience applying engineering automation across software build, test and deployment processes.

Understanding of distributed-system concepts including resilience, fault tolerance, error handling and scalability.

Experience with observability, including application monitoring, logging, alerting and production troubleshooting.

Experience supporting applications in production and resolving complex application or integration issues.

Good understanding of secure software development and DevSecOps principles.

Ability to contribute to technical design decisions and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
