We are looking for an experienced Java Developer with strong IBM Mainframe and CICS Liberty JVM Server experience to join our technology team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting Java applications deployed on CICS Liberty JVM Server within an enterprise mainframe environment.

This role requires a strong background in Java development, RESTful API and microservices design, and integration with core mainframe technologies such as COBOL, CICS programs, DB2, MQ, and related z/OS components. You should be comfortable working in a complex enterprise environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting both new development and production stability.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Java applications deployed on CICS Liberty JVM Server

Develop RESTful APIs and microservices running on IBM CICS Transaction Server

Integrate Java applications with existing mainframe components, including:

COBOL programs

CICS transactions and programs

DB2 databases

IBM MQ

Other z/OS and mainframe services

Develop, expose, and consume REST/JSON and SOAP-based web services.

Configure, maintain, and administer:

CICS Liberty profiles

JVM servers

Java application deployments within CICS environments

Support application deployment and runtime configuration in z/OS-based environments

Optimize application performance, including:

JVM tuning

memory usage

transaction performance

application response times

resource utilization on z/OS

Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis for development, test, and production issues

Support incident resolution and provide technical input for production stability and continuous improvement

Collaborate closely with:

Business Analysts

Solution Architects

QA / Testing teams

Infrastructure teams

Mainframe support teams

DevOps / Release teams

Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, refinement sessions, reviews, and retrospectives

Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and quality improvement initiatives

Support and participate in CI/CD implementation for Java applications in the mainframe/CICS environment

Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including design documents, deployment guides, support documentation, and operational procedures

Ensure all development activities follow enterprise standards, coding guidelines, security policies, and change management processes

Skills

Must have

Proven hands-on experience in Java application development within enterprise environments, at least 8 years.

Strong experience with CICS Liberty JVM Server.

Practical experience developing applications on or integrating with IBM CICS Transaction Server.

Experience developing RESTful APIs, microservices, and web services.

Strong understanding of REST/JSON and SOAP service development and consumption.

Experience configuring or supporting CICS Liberty profiles, JVM servers, and application deployments.

Good understanding of z/OS runtime environments and mainframe application architecture.

Experience with performance tuning, memory management, and JVM optimization.

Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.

Ability to analyze complex technical issues across Java, CICS, DB2, MQ, and mainframe components.

Experience working within Agile delivery teams.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and follow enterprise development standards.

Experience integrating Java applications with mainframe technologies such as:

COBOL

CICS programs

DB2

IBM MQ
