Project description

The Data Architect designs, governs, and evolves the organization's data platform across on-premises and cloud relational database systems. The role owns the end-to-end data architecture — from logical and physical data models through to deployment, performance, security, and migration strategy — with deep hands-on expertise across Oracle, MySQL, and AWS RDS.

Responsibilities
bullet icon

Define and own the enterprise data architecture: conceptual, logical, and physical data models, standards, and reference patterns.

bullet icon

Design and optimize relational database solutions on Oracle, MySQL, and AWS RDS (including Aurora) for performance, scalability, and cost.

bullet icon

Lead database migration and modernization initiatives — on-premises to cloud (lift-and-shift and re-platforming), version upgrades, and heterogeneous migrations between engines.

bullet icon

Establish data governance, security, and compliance controls: access management, encryption, masking, retention, and auditability.

bullet icon

Define high-availability, backup/restore, and disaster-recovery strategies (replication, read replicas, Multi-AZ, failover).

bullet icon

Drive performance tuning — query optimization, indexing strategy, partitioning, capacity planning, and cost optimization in AWS.

bullet icon

Set standards for data integration / ETL / ELT and collaborate with engineering, analytics, and application teams.

bullet icon

Provide architectural governance: design reviews, documentation, and technical mentorship to developers and DBAs.

Skills

Must have

bullet icon

Proven experience as a Data Architect / Senior DBA designing enterprise relational data solutions.

bullet icon

Strong hands-on expertise with Oracle (database design, PL/SQL, performance tuning, RAC/Data Guard concepts).

bullet icon

Strong hands-on expertise with MySQL (schema design, optimization, replication).

bullet icon

Solid experience with AWS RDS (provisioning, Multi-AZ, read replicas, parameter/option groups; Aurora a plus).

bullet icon

Data modeling (3NF and dimensional) and SQL performance tuning.

bullet icon

Understanding of data security, governance, backup/recovery, and HA/DR principles.

bullet icon

Experience with cloud migration of databases.

Nice to have

bullet icon

Other AWS data services (DMS, S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation).

bullet icon

Additional engines (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) or NoSQL exposure.

bullet icon

Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform / CloudFormation) and CI/CD for database changes.

bullet icon

Scripting/automation (Python, Bash, Shell).

bullet icon

Familiarity with data warehousing, streaming, or big-data ecosystems.

bullet icon

Relevant certifications (AWS Database / Solutions Architect, Oracle OCP).
