You will work on START, a high profile strategic project that will transform how the investment bank handles its equity business. Working within a team of highly skilled technology and business experts you will have the opportunity to employ and improve your own technical skills as well as learn about the Equity business. The environment is made of a unique combination of technologies that will let you expand your java skills beyond the usual server environments. Based on a standard toolkit using Java 1.6 and multicast gigabit fibre, the development environment delivers a various set of features spanning core java, databases and web technologies.

Responsibilities

The role within the team will see you:
• Work with the Business Analysts and your fellow team members to design models to represent the business and the functionality required by the START system.
• Lead design and implementation of key parts of the system
• Provide technical training and support on software products to a range of dependent teams, including other development teams, the testing team and production support team.

Skills

---

Must have

You are a senior software developer with 5+ years of experience and the following technical skills
• Extensive knowledge of Java, specifically the language fundamentals and its application to real-time, high performance systems combined with knowledge of database and web technologies.
• Knowledge of Unix fundamentals and scripting
Examples include usage of bash, python, perl, sed, awk, etc.
• Knowledge of Object Oriented theory and related design patterns as well as modelling, for instance using UML
• Ability to use a range of Software Development tools (for instance Eclipse, IntelliJ, Ant, JUnit, git, Subversion, ..)
Soft skills:
• Fluent in written and verbal English
• Ability to work independently and communicate at all levels and with both business and technology staff
• Open minded, eager to learn and self-motivated
• Client focused and proven ability to motivate and challenge teams to strive to exceed client expectations and building collaborative partnerships
• Good understanding of Agile methodologies, especially Scrum

Nice to have

Additional competencies and skills that will be considered include
• Demonstrable ability to take ownership of a development through problem identification, solution design and delivery for small to medium size projects (up to 3 people for up to 6 months)
• Experience of automated testing, refactoring, code reviews and continuous integration are desired
• Interest in the development process and how to improve it at the team and department level
