Development and support of a database infrastructure for a US Energy company (100+ instances)

Responsibilities

---

Design and support for backup and recovery of databases
Plan and execute the patching and upgrades of databases (in both standalone and HA environments)
Troubleshoot and optimize DBMS infrastructure and application database efficiency including the tuning of data queries within programs to maximize application performance
Configuration and utilization of database performance monitoring and tuning tools
Participate in application meetings to assist with the design and planning of database modifications in coordination with application releases and upgrades, application troubleshooting, roadmap planning, etc.
Utilize the knowledge of DBMS internals, objects, and processes, as well as best practice principles regarding availability, performance, and security
Develop DBMS and database security strategy in regards to user and application access, encryption methods, auditing.
Deploy and configure new DBMS/database environments.
Participation in 24x7 On Call Rotation (dealing with escalations)
Architect/Engineer DBMS projects
Provide work guidance and leadership to less experienced personnel.
Act as technical project leader on assigned projects.
Review and coordinate all DBA changes for potential impact and accuracy
Develop complex data retrieval queries.
Analyze and determine informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities for complex databases. Recommend and implement course of action based on analyses.
Define logical attributes and inter-relationships and design complex data structures to accommodate database production, storage, maintenance and accessibility to enhance performance.

Skills

---

Must have

15+ years of IT experience
8+ years of experience related to DBMS products management (Oracle 12c-19c)
Bachelor's degree in computer science, management of information systems, or related field

Nice to have

Knowledge of managing databases on VM in Azure environments
Experience with MS SQL Server
